Fringes are made using 3 rows of wefted hair. They are hand sewn and steamed to have a natural bend to them. A plain straight set is 8" wide and 4" long to allow for versatility, but they can be made to any width and nearly any length since each one is made by hand. There are 3 high-quality weave clips sewn into the back of each fringe for VERY secure placement.
4 basic styles to choose form, though any shape is possible if you can describe or draw it - Straight (think Emily the Strange), Straight w/ Cheeky Sides (little accents to play with on the sides), Straight w/ Chin-Length Sides (SO ANIME!) - that's what Austin has in the picture - and Slanted - chin length, side parted slant cut with streaks - generally for pinning to the side - kind of a "fringe without bangs" look...
